Quebec Lithium Project Reports Its Best Drill Hole Yet — 403.7 Metres at 1.57% Li₂O

A single drill hole can reshape expectations around a mineral deposit, and Q2 Metals says its latest result at the Cisco Lithium Project has done exactly that. The company reported on August 25 that hole CS26-093 cut three substantial lithium-bearing intervals, led by 403.7 metres grading 1.57% lithium oxide, or Li₂O. The same hole also returned 213.8 metres at 1.93% Li₂O and a shallower 60.8-metre interval at 1.24%.

The results come as Q2 pushes deeper into a large-scale drilling campaign at Cisco in Quebec’s Eeyou Istchee James Bay region. More important than any single headline grade, the new assays offer additional evidence about the deposit’s continuity, near-surface potential and possible extension beyond the boundaries used in its first mineral resource estimate.

Why Hole 93 Is Being Called the Project’s Best Yet

Hole CS26-093 was drilled to a total depth of roughly 803 metres and encountered three separate mineralized intervals totalling about 678 metres of core. Q2 described it as the best hole drilled at Cisco to date because of that combination of substantial mineralized widths and strong grades. The largest interval measured 403.7 metres at 1.57% Li₂O, while another returned 213.8 metres at a notably higher 1.93%. A third interval closer to surface ran 60.8 metres at 1.24%. Together, those results provide a more complete picture than the headline 403.7-metre intercept alone. For a project already known for unusually broad spodumene-bearing pegmatites, having several large intervals within one hole strengthens the geological case for extensive mineralization through the deposit.

There is an important distinction, however, between the project’s “best hole” and its widest or highest-profile individual intercept. Q2 previously reported 457.4 metres grading 1.65% Li₂O from hole CS-25-044, an exceptionally wide continuous intercept. Hole 93 earns its new description because of the combined mineralized sections encountered throughout the hole rather than because its 403.7-metre interval alone surpassed every previous measurement. Q2 also cautions that the newly reported lengths are core widths, not established true widths. The orientation and geometry of the pegmatite bodies are still being refined as drilling progresses. That technical qualification matters because drill-core length cannot automatically be interpreted as the final mineable thickness of a mineralized body.

The Most Important Part May Be What Sits Outside the Pit Shell

The deeper portion of Hole 93 could prove particularly consequential for the next geological model. Q2 said approximately 170 metres of the 403.7-metre interval occurs outside the conceptual pit shell used in the April 2026 mineral resource estimate. The company interprets that result as confirmation that mineralization on the western side of Cisco continues at depth. In practical terms, the existing resource model did not capture all of the mineralized core intersected by the new hole. That does not automatically mean another 170 metres will become economically mineable material, but it gives geologists fresh information to incorporate when the resource is updated. For a deposit already being tested through intensive infill drilling, extending mineralization beyond a previous modelling boundary is a meaningful result.

Hole 93 also delivered information from the opposite end of the depth spectrum. Its 60.8-metre interval grading 1.24% Li₂O begins at an estimated vertical depth of only about 14 metres. Near-surface mineralization can become important when engineers eventually examine stripping requirements, mine sequencing and potential early-stage access to ore, although those questions cannot be answered from an assay result alone. Not every hole in the latest batch produced similarly spectacular numbers. Hole 91 returned only a relatively small, low-grade interval, but Q2 said it contributed information to the structural interpretation of the surrounding area. That contrast illustrates why exploration programs depend on many holes rather than a handful of standout intercepts: weaker results can still clarify where mineralized structures begin, end or change direction.

Cisco Already Has a 295-Million-Tonne Inferred Resource

The new assays are arriving only four months after Cisco received its inaugural mineral resource estimate. Effective April 20, 2026, the estimate outlined approximately 294.7 million tonnes of Inferred material grading an average 1.36% Li₂O. About 270.5 million tonnes at 1.36% Li₂O were placed inside a pit-constrained scenario using a 0.4% Li₂O cut-off, while another 24.2 million tonnes grading 1.34% were included in an underground-constrained scenario using a 0.7% cut-off. The combined estimate contains roughly 4.0 million tonnes of Li₂O, equivalent to approximately 9.9 million tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent under the conversion assumptions used in the resource statement. Independent engineering consultant BBA prepared the estimate in collaboration with Q2’s technical team.

Those numbers are substantial, but the classification is just as important as the tonnage. Cisco’s current resource is Inferred, the lowest confidence category used for a formal mineral resource under Canadian reporting standards. An Inferred resource is not a mineral reserve and does not demonstrate that the material can be mined profitably. Q2’s April estimate used assays from 75 drill holes representing more than 33,000 metres of drilling, along with geological modelling of a principal spodumene pegmatite system. The company also identified a separate exploration target outside the current resource, but that target remains conceptual. Hole 93 therefore enters a project with an established resource base while potentially supplying data that could change both the confidence and shape of future estimates.

Four Rigs Are Working to Raise Geological Confidence

Q2 launched its summer drilling campaign in June with a plan for approximately 20,000 metres of infill and exploratory drilling. By the August 25 update, 9,552 metres had already been completed across 22 holes, and four rigs were operating in the main Cisco deposit area. Much of that work is designed specifically to convert portions of the existing Inferred resource into the more confident Indicated category. Additional rigs are expected to support expansion and exploration drilling beyond the main deposit as equipment becomes available. That means the current headline assays represent only the first results from a much larger body of 2026 drilling rather than the conclusion of the campaign.

The distinction between resource expansion and resource conversion is significant. Exploration holes can discover mineralization beyond known boundaries, while infill drilling places additional holes between existing ones to improve confidence in geological continuity and grade distribution. Q2 intends to use drilling completed during both the summer and fall programs in an updated Inferred resource estimate. Hole 93 appears to contribute to both objectives: it supports the interpretation of mineralization already encountered nearby while also extending significant material beyond the previous conceptual pit shell. For mine planners, having more densely spaced information can eventually influence everything from resource categorization and production scheduling to where engineers place preliminary pit limits, ramps and infrastructure.

Location Gives Cisco an Infrastructure Advantage — but Development Work Remains

Cisco lies within the greater Nemaska traditional territory in the Eeyou Istchee James Bay region of Quebec. The deposit is approximately 6.5 kilometres from the paved, all-season Billy Diamond Highway. That road provides access south toward Matagami, where rail infrastructure is located roughly 150 kilometres from the project, with onward connections toward seaports. The broader Cisco property covers more than 41,000 hectares, leaving Q2 with substantial ground beyond the main deposit for additional exploration. Access to existing transportation corridors can be valuable for a remote northern mining project because roads, rail and logistics can represent significant components of development costs.

Proximity to infrastructure, however, is not the same as having a mine ready to build. Q2 began baseline environmental studies in May and has been working on permitting associated with future project infrastructure, including access and camp requirements. The location within Eeyou Istchee also makes engagement with Indigenous communities and land users a central part of project advancement. Engineering decisions must ultimately account for environmental conditions, water management, transportation, power needs, processing facilities and community considerations alongside the geology. Cisco’s latest drill results improve knowledge of what is underground, but development will depend on whether those geological advantages can be translated into a technically workable, environmentally acceptable and economically competitive operation.

The Next Big Test Will Be Economics, Not Another Record Hole

Q2 is preparing a Preliminary Economic Assessment, with the company indicating that initial results are expected in fall 2026. The PEA is intended to place the existing mineral resource into a preliminary mining and processing framework and examine capital requirements, operating costs, potential mine life, metallurgical performance and economic sensitivities. It will be Cisco’s first broad attempt to connect the deposit’s geological scale with the practical economics of developing it. Results such as Hole 93 can improve the geological foundation feeding future studies, but a wide lithium intercept on its own says little about construction cost, recoveries, concentrate quality or the lithium prices required to support a profitable operation.

Q2 has also detailed the procedures used to check its new assays. Core samples are prepared by SGS Canada in Val-d’Or before pulps are analyzed at SGS’s Burnaby laboratory using sodium-peroxide fusion and ICP analytical methods. The company reports inserting blanks and certified reference materials at approximately five per cent each, along with duplicate testing to monitor analytical accuracy and precision. Its qualified person has reviewed the QA/QC results. Those controls strengthen confidence that the reported grades were measured consistently, but the broader investment and development case remains unfinished. Hole 93 is an important geological result; whether Cisco becomes an important mine will depend on the resource updates, metallurgy, engineering, permitting and economics that come next.
