Geely has landed an early hit in one of the world’s most unforgiving electric-car markets. The new Galaxy TT electric sports sedan has surpassed 20,000 pre-orders in China even though its formal market launch is not scheduled until September 2026. Reservations opened on August 13, giving the model roughly two weeks to reach the milestone.
The response is notable because Chinese buyers already have an unusually broad choice of fast, technologically advanced EVs. Geely is attempting to stand out with an aggressive combination: an 800-volt electrical architecture, CATL-supplied batteries, 6C fast charging, performance-oriented chassis hardware and a starting pre-sale price of 145,900 yuan. Rather than reserving its most important electrical technology for a costly flagship, Geely is putting much of it into the mainstream Galaxy TT range.
More Than 20,000 Buyers Raised Their Hands Before Launch
Geely Galaxy announced on August 28 that pre-orders for the TT had crossed 20,000 units, less than three weeks after mainstream pre-sales began on August 13. The sedan is scheduled to officially enter the Chinese market in September. Reservations are not identical to completed retail deliveries, and the ultimate conversion rate will matter, but the figure gives Geely an unusually strong pool of prospective customers before the first full month of sales has even begun.
There had already been an encouraging signal from the model’s higher-performance derivative. Geely earlier offered an initial batch of 999 Galaxy TT Ultra cars at 209,800 yuan. That limited allocation was reported sold out in only 27 minutes. The broader TT lineup is considerably less expensive, widening the potential customer base. Together, the two reservation episodes suggest the attention surrounding the car is not confined to collectors chasing a scarce launch edition.
Geely Is Putting 800-Volt Hardware Into a Much Cheaper Price Band
The regular Galaxy TT enters pre-sale with rear-wheel-drive versions priced at 145,900 yuan, 155,900 yuan and 169,900 yuan. That places the entry model at a price point usually associated with relatively mainstream Chinese EVs, yet Geely says every TT receives a full-domain 800-volt high-voltage architecture. The decision is important because higher-voltage systems have increasingly become a selling point for newer premium and performance-focused electric cars.
An 800-volt architecture does not automatically mean every charging stop will be exceptionally fast. Actual charging speed depends on the battery, thermal conditions, charging station and the vehicle’s charge curve. It does, however, allow engineers to deliver high power with lower current than a comparable lower-voltage system, helping control electrical losses and heat. For buyers, the more visible benefit is that Geely has paired the architecture with a battery designed for unusually high charging rates rather than treating 800 volts mainly as a specification-sheet headline.
The Charging Claim Is One of the TT’s Biggest Weapons
The Galaxy TT uses a customized CATL Shenxing TT battery and supports a claimed 6C ultra-fast charging rate. Geely says that combination can add more than 400 kilometres of rated driving range in about 11 minutes under suitable conditions. The Ultra version has separately been reported as capable of charging from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 11.6 minutes, illustrating the kind of charging performance Geely is targeting across the program.
Those figures are based on Chinese test-cycle range and controlled charging conditions, so they should not be interpreted as a guarantee that every driver will gain exactly 400 kilometres during an 11-minute roadside stop. Even so, the underlying direction matters. Chinese EV competition is increasingly moving beyond maximum range toward the time needed to restore that range. If the TT can reproduce strong charging speeds consistently at public stations, owners could spend less time thinking about battery capacity and more about how quickly the vehicle gets back on the road.
CATL Supplies Batteries With Several Range Options
Battery choice varies across the Galaxy TT family. Reporting on the new electric-drive system indicates pack capacities of approximately 52.4 kWh, 63.8 kWh and 75.2 kWh are used across different configurations. Depending on specification, reported CLTC driving ranges extend from roughly 540 kilometres to as much as 725 kilometres. The performance-oriented Ultra uses a 75.2-kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery and has been quoted with a 650-kilometre CLTC rating.
Chinese CLTC estimates are generally more generous than real-world driving results and should not be directly compared with EPA figures used in North America. The important part of the TT strategy is therefore the combination of range, charging and cost rather than the headline distance alone. Geely is effectively betting that a moderately sized battery capable of taking energy very quickly can be more useful than simply installing an enormous, expensive pack. That approach also has the potential to limit vehicle weight and battery cost.
Performance Moves the TT Beyond Ordinary Family-Sedan Territory
The rear-wheel-drive Galaxy TT develops up to 245 kW, or roughly 329 horsepower, according to specifications released during the pre-sale period. Buyers wanting considerably more performance can move to the dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration, where combined output rises to 425 kW, or about 570 horsepower. The TT Ultra is claimed to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 210 km/h.
Those numbers give Geely a way to market the TT on emotion as well as efficiency. China’s electric-sedan segment has become crowded with cars that are inexpensive to run but also exceptionally quick, meaning acceleration once associated with high-end performance vehicles has moved into far more accessible price brackets. Geely has even fitted the Ultra with a steering-wheel “Boost” function that temporarily emphasizes maximum performance. It is a small detail, but one that shows the company wants buyers to see the TT as a sports sedan rather than simply another long-range EV.
A 16-in-1 Electric Drive Is Central to Geely’s Engineering Pitch
The TT is also the debut application for Geely’s unusually integrated “Thunder” 16-in-1 electric-drive system. Instead of distributing numerous electrical, power-conversion and propulsion components around the vehicle, the design combines a large number of hardware and software functions into one compact assembly. Reported components include the motor, inverter, reduction gearbox, on-board charger, DC-DC converter and high-voltage distribution functions, along with software responsible for areas such as charging and energy management.
Geely says the unit weighs about 75 kilograms and reaches combined electric-drive efficiency of 93.8 percent under CLTC conditions. The company also says the compact design can free approximately 28 litres of additional luggage space while reducing wiring. Integration can improve packaging and potentially reduce weight and complexity during vehicle production, although tightly integrated assemblies can create their own challenges for servicing and thermal management. For Geely, the system is nevertheless an important example of bringing more powertrain development in-house rather than relying solely on bought-in components.
Geely Brought Serious Chassis Hardware to the Package
The Galaxy TT uses an aluminum double-wishbone front suspension and a reinforced five-link arrangement at the rear, hardware more elaborate than the simpler layouts fitted to many lower-priced vehicles. Geely says the TT’s chassis tuning involved Lotus expertise, an association made possible by the broader Geely automotive group’s ownership links with the British performance-car company. Higher specifications add electronically controlled damping technology designed to adapt the suspension to changing road conditions.
The TT Ultra goes further with a predictive “Magic Carpet” suspension function intended to identify changes in the road surface and modify damping response. Whether that technology produces a meaningful advantage will ultimately require independent road testing, but the specification illustrates how aggressively Chinese manufacturers are pushing chassis technology into relatively affordable cars. It also addresses a familiar weakness of extremely powerful EVs: straight-line speed alone does not create an engaging or comfortable sedan. Suspension control, steering, braking and body movement become increasingly important as performance rises.
Driver Assistance and Cabin Computing Receive Equal Attention
Technology inside the Galaxy TT extends beyond propulsion. Depending on trim, the car is available with Geely’s Qianli Haohan H5 or H7 assisted-driving systems, while upper versions add a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor. The H7 configuration has been described as supporting highway and urban navigation-assisted driving as well as automated parking functions. The Ultra also uses Nvidia’s Thor-U computing hardware for its assisted-driving system.
Cabin software is built around Flyme Auto 2, Geely’s latest-generation infotainment platform. Reported Ultra equipment includes a 10.2-inch digital instrument display, a 15.4-inch central touchscreen and a 25.6-inch augmented-reality head-up display. That level of computing and display hardware reflects the priorities of China’s EV market, where buyers increasingly judge vehicles not merely by traditional mechanical specifications but by software response, voice control, navigation and driver-assistance capabilities. The challenge for Geely will be turning that extensive equipment list into an experience that feels polished rather than complicated.
Nearly Five Metres Long, the TT Is Not a Small Budget EV
Although its starting price is comparatively low, the Galaxy TT is a substantial sedan. It measures 4,999 mm long, 1,919 mm wide and 1,479 mm high, while its 2,920-mm wheelbase creates dimensions closer to a large family or executive fastback than an inexpensive compact EV. The exterior combines a low roofline with semi-hidden door handles, a closed nose and an available electronically controlled rear spoiler.
Geely has also loaded the interior with comfort equipment. Reported features include heated and ventilated seats, massage functions, a panoramic glass roof and numerous storage locations. The Ultra adds practical touches such as a small heated-and-cooled refrigerator, a front trunk and more than 500 litres of rear luggage space. This combination explains part of the TT’s early appeal: Geely is not asking buyers to choose between price, performance and luxury-style equipment to the same degree that would have been common only a few years ago.
The TT Arrives While Geely’s Electric Business Is Already Growing
The Galaxy TT does not enter the market as an isolated experiment. Geely Auto reported sales of more than 1.42 million vehicles during the first half of 2026, while company revenue reached a record 173.6 billion yuan. Geely said its new-energy brands were important contributors, and the broader Geely Galaxy range has become one of the group’s main volume engines. Galaxy sales exceeded 100,000 units in July alone according to industry sales reporting.
That scale gives the TT an advantage that many new EV entrants lack. Geely can spread battery, software, manufacturing and electric-drive development across a rapidly expanding portfolio instead of relying on a single product to recover those investments. Yet competition remains punishing: China’s domestic passenger-car market has been shrinking even as local EV makers fight for market share with rapid product launches and aggressive pricing. Twenty thousand pre-orders are therefore an encouraging start, not a guarantee. The real test begins when Geely has to turn reservations into sustained monthly deliveries.
