Stellantis is turning the connected commercial vehicle into something closer to a continuously monitored business asset. At IAA Transportation 2026 in Hannover, the automaker formally showcased Pro One NEXT, a fleet-uptime system designed to use connected-vehicle data and command centres to identify problems, manage cases and get vans and trucks back to work faster.
The scale is significant. Stellantis says NEXT can provide real-time monitoring and proactive case management for 800,000 connected Pro One vehicles. Command centres are already operational in the United Kingdom and United States, with additional European locations planned. Canada, however, was not named in the rollout announcement. That omission stands out because Stellantis already sells commercial vehicles and connected fleet services to Canadian businesses, leaving an important question about when its newest fleet-monitoring model might reach the country.
A Command Centre for 800,000 Work Vehicles
Pro One NEXT represents a shift in how Stellantis wants to manage its relationship with commercial customers. Rather than primarily selling a van or pickup and relying on the traditional dealer-service process when something goes wrong, the company is building an operating system around vehicle uptime. Stellantis says NEXT combines real-time monitoring with proactive case management for all 800,000 connected vehicles in its Pro One ecosystem. The system is supported by dedicated command centres that can coordinate information from vehicles, dealers, technical teams and parts operations.
For a large fleet, the concept is relatively straightforward. A delivery van displaying a developing technical problem does not necessarily have to wait for a roadside breakdown before anyone begins responding. Connected data can potentially flag an issue earlier, allowing the fleet and service network to begin planning an intervention. Stellantis describes the broader system as one built around connectivity, services and artificial intelligence. Its stated ambition is not simply to collect more data, but to turn that information into faster action and greater vehicle availability.
The Goal Is Less Downtime, Not Just More Data
Fleet telematics is hardly new. Businesses have used GPS tracking, fuel reports, diagnostic codes and driver-behaviour monitoring for years. What Stellantis is trying to add with NEXT is a more direct operational layer between the data coming from a vehicle and the people responsible for fixing it. The company says the system connects its command centres with dealers, parts operations and technical services so cases can be addressed proactively instead of moving through a disconnected chain after a vehicle has already stopped working.
That distinction matters to businesses because an out-of-service work vehicle can disrupt much more than transportation. A plumber’s van sitting in a repair bay can mean postponed appointments. A delivery vehicle waiting on parts can force routes onto other drivers. A municipal or utility truck that is unavailable may leave another asset working overtime. Stellantis has consequently made uptime a central part of its commercial-vehicle strategy, going so far as to establish a long-term ambition of moving toward 100% vehicle uptime. It is an aspirational target rather than a guarantee, but it shows how heavily the company is betting on connected services.
The First Command Centres Are Already Running
Stellantis confirmed at Hannover that the first Pro One NEXT command centres in the United Kingdom and United States are operational. The next phase identified by the company is a successive rollout of additional in-house command centres across Europe. Those centres are intended to provide local expertise and faster access to assistance networks, rather than routing every fleet problem through one centralized global operation.
The approach also shows how NEXT has moved beyond the early pilot stage described by Stellantis earlier in 2026. In May, the automaker characterized NEXT as an advanced uptime solution being piloted through command centres as part of its wider Pro One strategy. By September, it was being presented at one of the commercial-vehicle industry’s biggest events as a core part of Stellantis’ connected ecosystem. That progression is important: NEXT is no longer simply an idea attached to a future software strategy. Stellantis is now tying the system to hundreds of thousands of existing connected work vehicles and building physical operating infrastructure around it.
Canada Has Connected Fleet Tools — But No NEXT Date
Canada is notably absent from Stellantis’ September rollout language. The automaker specifically identified operational centres in the U.S. and U.K. and said more in-house centres would be created across Europe. It did not announce a Canadian command centre, a Canadian implementation date or a timetable for extending the NEXT system north of the U.S. border. That does not mean Canada has been excluded permanently; it means a Canadian rollout has not been confirmed in the information Stellantis released with the Hannover debut.
Canadian Stellantis customers are not starting from zero when it comes to connected fleet technology. Stellantis Fleet Canada already promotes data-driven fleet analytics through Free2move, describing an online platform designed to connect businesses with their vehicles and operational information. Its Canadian commercial lineup also includes Ram pickups and the ProMaster family used by delivery companies, tradespeople and service fleets. The unanswered issue is whether those existing Canadian capabilities will eventually be folded into the more tightly integrated NEXT command-centre model now being deployed elsewhere.
Downtime Is Becoming a More Expensive Fleet Problem
The business case behind systems such as NEXT becomes clearer when looking at the wider commercial-fleet market. Geotab’s 2026 State of Commercial Transportation report was built from a dataset representing nearly six million connected-vehicle subscriptions and roughly 100 billion data points per day. The company identified maintenance pressure, aging assets and rising repair expenses among the challenges facing fleet operators. Its analysis also found that commercial vehicles in its dataset were active for an average of only 186 days per year, illustrating how much unused capacity can exist across working fleets.
Separate Geotab research has highlighted the cost of unexpected breakdowns as well. The company has reported that maintenance expenses were rising while roadside incidents continued to create operational disruption, prompting increased interest in tools capable of predicting problems rather than simply recording them. The attraction for a fleet manager is therefore not an impressive dashboard by itself. The useful moment is when a warning helps move a repair into a planned service window instead of leaving a loaded van, technician truck or delivery vehicle stranded during the busiest part of a working day.
Driver Monitoring Adds a Privacy Question
Connected fleet systems can monitor more than mechanical health. Depending on the service being used, telematics can reveal vehicle locations, mileage, routes, fuel consumption, speed and driving behaviour. Stellantis’ existing Pro One Connect Fleet platform, for example, promotes live locations, geofencing, route information, driver-safety analysis and vehicle-health monitoring. Those capabilities can help managers understand how vehicles are being operated, but they also create a more sensitive issue when vehicle data can be associated with individual employees.
Canadian privacy guidance makes that distinction important. The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada says employee monitoring should be specific, targeted and appropriate, with organizations considering whether less privacy-invasive approaches could accomplish the same purpose. Earlier federal privacy findings involving GPS-equipped company vehicles also recognized legitimate uses such as dispatching, safety and protecting company assets while warning against treating location technology as unrestricted employee surveillance. The precise legal obligations vary by jurisdiction and workplace, but a Canadian NEXT deployment would therefore involve more than technical integration. Employers would also need sensible policies around what data is collected, why it is needed and how it is used.
Stellantis Is Building a Much Larger Commercial-Vehicle Ecosystem
NEXT makes more sense when viewed as part of Stellantis’ broader commercial-vehicle expansion. Pro One sold approximately 1.65 million commercial vehicles and pickups globally in 2025. Stellantis says the division ranks first in Europe and South America and third in North America, while its September presentation put its global commercial share at roughly 15%. It also operates through more than 21,000 professional sales and service points worldwide, giving the company a substantial physical network to connect with its growing digital infrastructure.
The next phase goes well beyond fleet monitoring. Stellantis has committed to 11 new Pro One model launches over the five years leading to 2030 and is targeting 30% volume growth as it pursues global leadership. Its strategy combines vehicle data, NEXT, financing and other integrated services, CustomFit conversions and the professional dealer network. The company’s Hannover display underscored that direction with 13 vehicles, new commercial-van products and the autonomous electric BOW. logistics concept. In other words, Stellantis increasingly wants revenue and customer relationships to extend far beyond the moment a commercial vehicle leaves the dealership.
Canadian Fleet Operators Now Have Something Important to Watch
For Canadian businesses, the immediate takeaway is more measured than the 800,000-vehicle figure might initially suggest. Stellantis has established a new monitoring and uptime system on a large global scale, and one of its first operational command centres is in the United States. Yet the company stopped short of saying that Canadian Ram and Stellantis fleet customers are part of the initial NEXT rollout. Until Stellantis Canada announces availability, fleet operators should distinguish between the connected services already offered domestically and the newer command-centre model being promoted globally.
Canada nevertheless looks like a market worth watching closely. Stellantis already maintains national fleet sales and after-sales operations in the country, sells Ram work trucks and ProMaster vans, and markets connected analytics to Canadian fleet customers. Pro One is also trying to strengthen its position in North America as part of a broader product and services push. A Canadian expansion of NEXT would therefore fit the company’s wider direction, but that remains a possibility rather than a confirmed plan. For now, the clearest development is that Stellantis has moved fleet monitoring much closer to the centre of its commercial-vehicle business — while leaving Canadian customers without a specific rollout date.
