Jeep is reaching deep into its postwar history for one of the most distinctive Wrangler special editions headed to Canada. The 2027 Jeep Wrangler JL-2A takes its inspiration from the Willys CJ-2A, the civilian Jeep introduced in 1945 after the military Willys MB had proven itself during the Second World War. Rather than simply applying vintage badges, Jeep has recreated some of the original model’s most memorable colours, materials and visual details on a modern Rubicon foundation.
Canadian customers will pay a package MSRP of $6,995 for the JL-2A treatment, with ordering scheduled to open in October 2026. The result pairs 33-inch all-terrain tires and Wrangler trail capability with orange-accented retro wheels, Heritage Tan leather, period-inspired colours and carefully placed references to the working Jeeps that once served farms, ranches and factories.
Canada Gets Its Own $6,995 JL-2A Package
The JL-2A arrives in Canada as the 11th limited-edition Wrangler released through Jeep’s Twelve 4 Twelve program. Unlike a completely separate Wrangler trim developed from the ground up, the JL-2A is a package built on the Wrangler Rubicon platform. Jeep’s Canadian announcement places the package MSRP at $6,995, meaning that figure represents the heritage equipment rather than the total price of a complete vehicle.
That distinction matters because buyers comparing Canadian and American coverage may encounter two different numbers. Jeep’s U.S. announcement lists the package at US$4,995, while the Canadian announcement specifies C$6,995. Canadian orders are scheduled to open in October 2026. Jeep Canada had not presented the heritage package as a low-cost appearance option; it combines unique exterior and interior treatments with equipment including a front TrailCam and the Convenience Group. In practical terms, this is a Rubicon dressed to tell a much older Jeep story.
The Original CJ-2A Changed Jeep’s Mission
The name JL-2A deliberately echoes the Willys CJ-2A, which arrived in July 1945 as Jeep made the transition from military production to civilian life. The CJ designation became associated with “Civilian Jeep,” and the CJ-2A was engineered for customers whose jobs were far removed from a battlefield. Willys-Overland promoted it for farms, ranches and industrial work, turning the compact four-wheel-drive vehicle into something resembling a mobile piece of machinery.
Its changes reflected those new responsibilities. The CJ-2A incorporated a tailgate, larger headlights and an available rear power takeoff that could operate equipment. It also used the seven-slot grille that became one of Jeep’s most recognizable design signatures. Historical production records put CJ-2A production at more than 214,000 units between 1945 and 1949. That background helps explain why the modern JL-2A emphasizes agricultural colours and work-oriented imagery rather than simply reproducing a military-style Wrangler.
Jeep Recreated One of the CJ-2A’s Most Memorable Colour Schemes
Colour is central to the JL-2A’s retro effect. Early CJ-2As were available in combinations that would look unusually bold on many modern SUVs, including Harvest Tan bodywork with Sunset Red wheels and Pasture Green with Autumn Yellow wheels. Jeep has taken that idea rather than simply painting the new Wrangler army green and calling the job finished.
For 2027, Gobi returns and serves as the modern interpretation of the original Harvest Tan look. Jeep highlights Gobi on the two-door JL-2A and its ’41 green colour on the four-door. Bright White, Joose and Sting Gray are also listed, with Ghost scheduled for later availability. The visual connection becomes particularly clear when Gobi is combined with the JL-2A’s orange-toned wheels. It recalls the contrasting wheels of the 1945 vehicle without attempting to make a modern Wrangler look like a literal reproduction of an eight-decade-old machine.
The Orange Wheels Are More Than a Styling Gimmick
One of the easiest ways to identify a JL-2A will be its wheels. Jeep equips the special edition with exclusive 17-inch retro-style wheels finished in Joose, an orange-red shade intended to reference the Sunset Red wheels paired with Harvest Tan CJ-2As. They are wrapped in 33-inch BFGoodrich KO2 all-terrain tires, keeping the heritage treatment connected to the Wrangler’s off-road purpose.
Orange accents continue with the front and rear tow hooks, while body-colour fender flares and a body-colour three-piece hardtop make the body itself appear comparatively clean. Dark grille accents provide another contrast point without overwhelming the vintage-inspired palette. The result is unusual by current SUV standards, where special editions often rely heavily on black wheels and darkened trim. Jeep has instead used contrasting wheel colour as a major design feature, just as Willys did during the CJ-2A era. It gives the JL-2A an identity that should remain obvious even from a distance.
The Cabin Gets a Wrangler-First Colour Combination
The retro theme continues inside, where Jeep says the JL-2A introduces a colour-and-material combination that has not previously been used in a Wrangler. The seats are wrapped in Nappa Heritage Tan leather, while a Nappa PUR material appears across the instrument-panel mid-bolster. Bison Brown is used on areas including the door panels, lower dashboard and centre console.
Desert Orange stitching runs throughout the cabin, visually connecting the interior with the distinctive wheels and tow hooks outside. It is a considerably warmer environment than the black and dark-grey interiors commonly associated with rugged off-road models. The approach also reflects an important difference between the JL-2A and its 1945 inspiration. The original CJ-2A was essentially designed as a working tool; the 2027 tribute adds premium materials to that history. Jeep is therefore recreating the colours and atmosphere of the early civilian vehicle without asking modern customers to live with the sparse accommodations of a mid-1940s utility machine.
Small Willys Details Carry Much of the Heritage Story
Some of the JL-2A’s most interesting details are small enough that a casual observer may never notice them. The gear selector receives an exclusive Willys-Overland satin-chrome medallion, while Jeep incorporates heritage graphics into the HVAC vents. One references the familiar seven-slot grille and another depicts a Willys silhouette, turning everyday cabin components into reminders of the vehicle that inspired the special edition.
The rear swing gate carries an even more specific historical reference. Jeep created a plaque that reproduces artwork associated with the original CJ-2A dashboard data plate, complete with agricultural and industrial imagery. That is particularly appropriate because Willys marketed the CJ-2A as far more than personal transportation. Period Jeeps could be equipped to perform jobs involving farm implements and other machinery. Bringing that imagery into a 2027 Wrangler creates a direct connection between a vehicle that once worked fields and factories and a modern SUV whose buyers are far more likely to use its versatility for recreation.

Underneath the vintage styling sits the Wrangler Rubicon platform rather than an entry-level Wrangler. That choice gives the JL-2A considerably more substance than an appearance package placed on a road-focused model. Modern Rubicons are built around serious off-road hardware, and Jeep specifically describes the JL-2A as combining its historical design theme with the Rubicon’s Trail Rated capability.

No matter how convincing the orange wheels and tan interior may look, the JL-2A remains a contemporary Wrangler. Jeep includes its Convenience Group as standard equipment on the package. That brings features including remote start, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror and a universal garage-door opener — amenities that would have seemed unimaginable when CJ-2As began leaving Willys-Overland’s Toledo factory in 1945.
A front TrailCam with an integrated washer is also included. The forward-facing camera can be particularly useful when the hood blocks a clear view of an obstacle during slow off-road manoeuvres, while the washer helps restore visibility after mud or dirt covers the lens. The equipment illustrates how Jeep has approached the entire JL-2A project: preserve visual references to the original without recreating its limitations. Buyers still receive modern convenience equipment and trail technology. Nostalgia is being layered onto the Wrangler rather than allowed to dictate how the vehicle functions every day.
The JL-2A Is Part of Jeep’s Bigger Anniversary Strategy
The JL-2A did not appear in isolation. Jeep has spent the past year releasing limited-edition Wranglers under its Twelve 4 Twelve program, with each drop exploring a different part of the Wrangler and Jeep story. The JL-2A, revealed September 12, 2026, became the 11th entry, leaving one final edition scheduled for October.
Previous releases have reached into different corners of the brand’s history, styling and performance catalogue, ranging from military-inspired treatments to retro colour combinations and V8-powered models. Jeep Canada also pairs each Twelve 4 Twelve release with a commemorative rubber duck, referencing the Jeep “ducking” tradition that the company traces to an Ontario woman who placed a rubber duck and friendly note on another Jeep. By placing the CJ-2A tribute near the end of the campaign, Jeep has gone almost all the way back to the beginning of its civilian story before closing the year-long run.
What the $6,995 Premium Is Really Buying
The JL-2A does not use its heritage package to advertise a revolutionary engine or entirely new 4×4 system. Its appeal lies instead in combining a capable Rubicon foundation with a collection of details unavailable on an ordinary Wrangler. The premium covers the distinctive Joose-finished wheels, unique colour treatment, Heritage Tan and Bison Brown cabin, special stitching, commemorative components, Convenience Group and TrailCam, among other package content.
Whether that combination matters will depend heavily on the buyer. Someone interested only in maximum off-road hardware can compare the JL-2A against a conventionally equipped Rubicon. For an enthusiast attracted to Jeep history, however, the more difficult pieces to duplicate later are precisely the parts that define this model: the factory interior colours, commemorative trim, retro wheels and CJ-2A references. The 2027 JL-2A therefore occupies a familiar special-edition niche, but its connection to the first production civilian Jeep gives the story considerably more depth than a simple badge-and-decal package.
