Tesla’s newest Full Self-Driving software package is beginning to appear on Canadian vehicles, with independent fleet trackers recording installations late on August 29 and shortly after midnight on August 30. The rollout centres on software version 2026.26.6.5, which combines Tesla’s newer FSD branches with features from its broader 2026 Summer Update.
For Canadian owners, the important detail is that the experience depends heavily on vehicle hardware. Newer AI4 cars are receiving FSD (Supervised) v14.3.8, while some older AI3 vehicles are being served through Tesla’s lighter v14 branch. The overnight movement does not mean every eligible Tesla in Canada will immediately receive the download, but it confirms that the latest deployment has moved beyond an exclusively U.S.-heavy rollout and into Canadian cars.
Canadian Cars Are Now Showing Up in the Rollout Data
The clearest evidence of the Canadian rollout comes from independent Tesla fleet trackers, which began logging 2026.26.6.5 installations in Canada as deployment accelerated. TeslaFi recorded a Model 3 Standard Range Plus in the Northwest Territories receiving the update shortly after midnight on August 30. Teslascope has likewise recorded Canadian vehicles among installations of the new version, alongside a much larger number of U.S. cars.
Those numbers need to be interpreted carefully. TeslaFi and Teslascope track participating vehicles rather than Tesla’s entire Canadian fleet, so their percentages are not equivalent to an official national deployment rate. Still, they provide useful evidence of where software is appearing before Tesla publishes any broader announcement. By August 30, roughly 5% of known Teslascope installations for this version were Canadian. That fits Tesla’s normal over-the-air approach: start with smaller groups, collect data and gradually expand distribution rather than send a major FSD release to every eligible car simultaneously.
One Download Can Deliver Different FSD Versions
Software version 2026.26.6.5 is slightly more complicated than its version number suggests. On newer Hardware 4, also called AI4, vehicles, the package carries FSD (Supervised) v14.3.8. Fleet and release-note databases show the AI4 branch appearing across Model S, Model 3, Model X, Model Y and Cybertruck configurations in North America. Hardware 3 vehicles, meanwhile, can receive Tesla’s reduced v14.1 Lite branch rather than the complete AI4 implementation.
That distinction matters in Canada because a substantial number of Model 3 and Model Y vehicles on the road were built with Hardware 3. Tesla itself warns that FSD functionality varies according to hardware, model year, configuration, software and region. An owner therefore cannot assume that seeing 2026.26.6.5 on another Tesla means every feature will work identically on their own car. Tesla has been trying to narrow that hardware gap, but the “Lite” label remains an important signal that older computers are not simply running the identical AI4 package.
v14.3.8 Continues Tesla’s Push Toward a Heavier AI Stack
Tesla attributes a long list of behavioural improvements to the current v14.3 branch. Its release notes say the reinforcement-learning stage used to train the FSD neural network has been upgraded, while the vision encoder has been improved for rare situations, poor visibility, three-dimensional geometry and traffic-sign understanding. Tesla also says it rewrote its AI compiler and runtime using MLIR, producing a claimed 20% improvement in reaction time.
There is an important qualification for owners already running a recent v14.3 build. The published notes for v14.3.8 closely mirror those attached to earlier v14.3 releases, so this should not automatically be interpreted as an entirely new driving model arriving overnight. For some AI4 owners, the bigger change is that Tesla has moved the current FSD branch onto newer 2026.26 Summer Update firmware. That software convergence may sound less dramatic than a new neural network, but it matters because owners no longer have to remain on an older firmware branch simply to keep newer FSD functionality.
Tesla Is Putting More Attention on Unusual Road Situations
The release notes devote unusual detail to situations that occur infrequently but can require a quick response. Tesla says v14.3 improves behaviour around emergency vehicles, school buses and vehicles that violate right-of-way rules. It also highlights small animals, objects hanging or leaning into the roadway and difficult traffic-light arrangements involving curved roads, compound signals and yellow-light decisions. Temporary system degradation is another stated focus, with FSD intended to recover more smoothly when conditions momentarily become difficult.
Those improvements are especially relevant because advanced driver-assistance systems are often judged not by routine kilometres on open highways but by the unexpected event that interrupts them. A construction vehicle protruding into a lane, an ambulance approaching an intersection or a confusing set of lights can turn an ordinary trip into a complicated perception problem within seconds. Tesla says it is increasingly mining difficult examples from its vehicle fleet and emphasizing them during reinforcement learning. The release notes, however, describe Tesla’s claimed improvements; they are not independent proof that every edge case has been solved.
Parking and Arrival Behaviour Is Becoming a Bigger Part of FSD
Tesla’s definition of an FSD trip increasingly extends beyond keeping a car between road markings. The v14.3 branch includes more decisive parking-spot selection and manoeuvring, while parking choices can now appear near a destination with a “P” icon. Arrival Options allow drivers to influence where the vehicle should finish a trip rather than treating the navigation pin as the only possible endpoint. These changes are intended to make the final few metres of a journey feel more integrated with the rest of FSD.
Hardware 3 vehicles are also receiving usability improvements through the Lite branch. Depending on configuration, Tesla now allows FSD to be initiated from Park without a separate brake-pedal confirmation when Brake Confirm is disabled and driver-detection requirements are satisfied. The driver must be seated, buckled and detectable by the cabin camera. It is a small interface change, but it illustrates Tesla’s broader direction: reducing the number of manual transitions between starting a journey, navigating, arriving and parking while still keeping a licensed driver responsible for the vehicle.
Driver Monitoring Is Getting More Attention Too
The newest FSD branch is not only trying to improve what the vehicle sees outside. Tesla says it has also increased the sensitivity of its driver-monitoring system by improving eye-gaze tracking, handling of eyewear and accuracy under changing cabin lighting. That matters because FSD remains a supervised driver-assistance system, despite increasingly sophisticated steering, navigation and parking behaviour. Tesla’s cabin camera is central to enforcing that distinction.
According to Tesla’s Canadian owner documentation, the camera monitors attentiveness while FSD is engaged. Repeatedly looking away can trigger warnings, while the vehicle may also ask for steering-wheel input when the system cannot adequately assess the driver. Ignoring escalating prompts can cause Self-Driving to be disabled for the remainder of the trip. Tesla also says that if a driver fails to resume manual control when required, the vehicle can activate its hazard lights and attempt to pull over. The message behind the more capable software is therefore somewhat counterintuitive: as FSD improves, Tesla is simultaneously putting more effort into ensuring the person behind the wheel remains involved.
The FSD Release Is Arriving With a Much Bigger Software Package
For many owners, 2026.26.6.5 will feel larger than an FSD point update because it sits on Tesla’s 2026 Summer Update branch. Features associated with the package include expanded Self-Driving statistics in the mobile app, Preferred Routes, Automatic Navigation, arrival-energy controls and additional navigation information. Tesla has also been expanding Grok vehicle commands, allowing supported cars to use the assistant for functions such as climate adjustments, music, calls and locating controls.
Self-Driving statistics are particularly relevant to FSD users. Tesla now lets compatible owners see information about their supervised-driving usage through the mobile app, including intervention-related data. The FSD interface itself can show the distance travelled without an intervention and record longer intervention-free streaks. These figures should not be confused with independently verified safety measurements, but they give owners a more tangible way to observe how the software behaves on their own routes. The result is a release where infotainment, navigation and AI-driving development are increasingly being bundled together rather than moving on completely separate software tracks.
FSD Has Become Easier to Try in Canada
Tesla has also lowered the commitment required for Canadians who want access to FSD without purchasing the software outright. Its Canadian support pages currently list the Full Self-Driving (Supervised) subscription at C$99 per month for eligible vehicles. Tesla says vehicles generally need an FSD computer 3.0 or newer to subscribe, although specific capabilities remain dependent on configuration and software. Owners can manage subscriptions through the Tesla app or vehicle touchscreen.
Canada is also included in Tesla’s v14 trial program. Tesla says eligible Model S, Model 3, Model X, Model Y and Cybertruck owners can receive a complimentary opportunity to experience v14 features such as Speed Profiles and Arrival Options. The current trial requirements specify FSD software version 14.2 or newer, meaning software branch and hardware remain important even when the vehicle technically supports FSD. Tesla advises owners to connect their vehicles to Wi-Fi to obtain available updates. That makes the overnight Canadian deployment commercially important as well: every broader v14 rollout potentially expands the group Tesla can expose to its newest subscription and trial experience.
“Full Self-Driving” Still Does Not Mean Autonomous Driving
The most important limitation has not changed with 2026.26.6.5. Tesla’s Canadian documentation repeatedly describes FSD as “Supervised” and says the technology does not turn a Tesla into an autonomous vehicle. It can steer through city streets, negotiate intersections, change lanes, use highway ramps, navigate roundabouts and park, but the licensed driver remains responsible for monitoring the road and taking control whenever necessary.
Tesla specifically warns about narrow roads, construction areas, complicated intersections and other situations where human intervention may be required. The company also says drivers should never predict that FSD will automatically stop or proceed correctly at a particular intersection simply because it has done so before. In Canada, Tesla permits FSD engagement at speeds below 150 km/h on eligible vehicles, but that capability does not remove legal speed limits or driver responsibility. The distinction is especially worth emphasizing after a major update, when improved behaviour can encourage confidence faster than drivers learn the new system’s limitations.
The Bigger Story Is Tesla’s Software Convergence
The most consequential part of this rollout may ultimately be less visible than smoother steering or better parking. Version 2026.26.6.5 brings Tesla’s current AI4 FSD branch together with newer mainstream vehicle firmware instead of forcing some FSD users to remain separated from the latest non-driving features. Independent release tracking describes it as an important convergence point between the 2026.26 Summer Update and the v14.3 FSD line.
Canadian installations now confirm that convergence is crossing the border, but the rollout remains phased. Tesla can expand, pause or redirect an over-the-air release as fleet data comes back, and there is no public timetable guaranteeing when every Canadian owner will receive 2026.26.6.5. Hardware also determines what arrives once the download appears. For that reason, the overnight Canadian sightings should be read as the beginning of broader availability rather than universal deployment. Still, for owners who have watched newer FSD builds and mainstream Tesla software evolve on separate tracks, their reunion in a single package is a meaningful step.
